All Pieces of the Mosaic Are Needed
I won several sets of tickets to the recent Colin James concert, and while watching the band play, I realized it was the perfect analogy for life.
How so? Look at the stage. Who do you see?
- Colin James: Vocals and guitar
- Greg Piccolo: Tenor and alto saxophones
- Kaz Kazanoff: Baritone and tenor saxophones
- Brian Casserly: Trumpet and vocals
- John Wolf: Trombone, bass trombone, and vocals
- Reese Wynans: Hammond organ and piano
- George Rains: Drums
- Norm Fisher: Stand-up bass, electric bass, and vocals
Who is in the spotlight center stage? Colin.
Who is he surrounded by? Greg, Kaz, Brian, John, Reese, George and Norm.
In life, where does everyone want to be? Center stage. The one the spotlight shines on, but not everyone is meant to be center stage.
We need all the different instruments and voices to bring the songs and music to life. During the concert, Colin broke a guitar string 3/4 of the way through a song. He walked off stage with his guitar to get it repaired, and the band carried on playing, each taking a solo-ish moment. WOW! It highlighted how they all shone in their roles as musicians.
This isn’t to dissuade you from your dreams and goals but rather to have you evaluate where your talents lie and where you can best shine. Do you think that George, the drummer, is upset that he sat behind Colin as he played guitar center stage? No! He is focused on keeping the beat, adding in his own flair, and entertaining the audience. He was immersed in his passion. The same went for every other musician on the stage.
Be yourself. Unapologetically your authentic self. We need everyone as they are to complete the mosaic of life, just like we need every musician in the band to complete the music.
What is your role in our mosaic of life?
