Helene Hadsell Didn’t Win Using SPEC
Wait? What?!
You heard me. Helene Hadsell is famous for her 4-step manifestation process but never used it to win prizes.
THE HISTORY OF SPEC
1971
The 1st Edition of The Name It & Claim It Game, the WINeuvers for WISHcraft chapter ends with:

THE BEGINNING
OF A NEW WAY OF LIFE FOR YOU
In that edition, what Helene taught was her 3-step manifestation technique.
- Select a goal.
- Never entertain doubts.
- You can con yourself into anything.
I do not know when she created that 3-step formula, but it was sometime between reading The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale and winning her home in 1965.
1988
The 2nd Edition of The Name It & Claim It Game, the WINeuvers for WISHcraft chapter ends with:
SELECT IT. PROJECT IT. EXPECT IT.
By then, Helene had long stopped entering contests but was teaching her grandchildren to use the Law of Attraction to win prizes. Again, as there are significant gaps in the stories and information about, and from, Helene, I do not know when or how she created SPE.
2009
Hoping to uplift others, and tired of reading about all the doom and gloom in their publication, Helene sent an article titled Select It-Project It-Expect It-Collect It to The Sun. It was the SPEC method in its entirety.
Then, one day, Helene sent me a copy, asking that I share it with my audience. I did. (You can read it here.)
2019
Then, when I began publishing the 3rd Edition of The Name It & Claim It Game, Dike (Helene’s oldest son) sent me copies of all of her books, including a CD with a 2010 copy. In the digital edition of The Name It & Claim It Game, I found SPEC, but as Helene wasn’t technically inclined, it was randomly plunked into the book. I moved the SPEC chapter directly after the WINeuvers for WISHcraft chapter. This way, when you read the current edition, Helene’s teachings flow smoothly from one to another.
The Silva Method
Many people have commented on my social media posts and videos, stating I should give Jose Silva credit for SPEC as that’s where Helene learned to master her mind. However, I can’t.
- Helene didn’t even meet Jose Silva until shortly after the Hadsells moved into the home she won. She had also learned from other teachers, including Florence Shovel Shinn and RJH. (Authors Helene recommends.)
- Helene didn’t fully create SPEC until 2009. Long after she finished writing all her books and teaching self-awareness workshops.
That said, yes, Helene probably got some of SPEC from The Silva Method and what she learned over the years with Jose, but I believe it is an accumulation of all her life’s learning experiences distilled into a simple 4-step formula.
