Manifest Using Abracadabra
The Power of Speaking Your Affirmations Out Loud
I recently saw someone post about the meaning of “abracadabra”. It’s “I create as I speak.” Our words have power, and we can use them to create our world. We’ve all experienced this when we’ve fought with someone and said something we wish we could take back. You can’t. Those words are powerful.
I believe words are even more powerful when spoken aloud than when they are written down. I found a big difference when I was recording the Audible books for Helene Hadsell compared to just reading her stories. I even had to make changes because what read well to me didn’t sound the same when I spoke it.
The other thing I discovered was that when I read her books out loud, I was gaining wisdom from her writing that I had somehow missed! I highly recommend reading all your inspirational, metaphysical, and spiritual books out loud. Read it through once as you normally would, then read it out loud to yourself. Not only are you reading the words again, but you’re also saying them and hearing them. It’s such a powerful exercise.
Why Your Affirmations Aren’t Working
Let’s talk about affirmations and why some people struggle with them. If you’re saying affirmations and they’re not working, it’s because you don’t manifest what you want; you manifest who you are. And sometimes not even that!
Here’s one problem you may have encountered. If you’re saying “I am healthy,” “I am fit,” “I am strong,” “I am slim,” “I am wealthy.” All these different things that you want to be in your life, and your brain goes, “you’re not that, that’s baloney,” you need to change it so that it’s a process, not an end result, because we are going through life.
You’ll know somebody’s a Silva Method graduate if you say “how are you doing?” and they say “better and better,” because that is believable. You can get better and better every day, even if it’s a fraction of a percent – it’s still better. It’s true, so your subconscious will accept it. It’s also why José Silva incorporated it into his program, because it is believable.
Every day in every way, I’m getting better and better and better.
Émile Coué
If you want to lose 50 pounds, you’re not going to start saying affirmations like “I’m 150 pounds now.” Your brain goes “no, you’re not.” But if you can say “I am so excited that every day I’m getting closer to releasing”, not losing because if you lose something you might find it – “releasing 50 pounds,” your brain goes “yeah!” Your self-talk will change to something similar to this: “Instead of that cookie, we’re going to have a carrot. I’m not craving sweets as much as I used to. I still want to munch on something, but I’m going to have some carrots, and maybe a cup of green tea instead of some soda.”
Little changes over time, and what’s happening is better and better, and your brain goes, “Oh, see, I can believe that.”
When and How to Say Your Affirmations
You want to say your affirmations and focus on your end results as you wake up and as you fall asleep. The reason you want to use those two times of day is because that’s when you’re in the hypnagogic state – that’s when the veil thins between the conscious and the subconscious. You can then program your subconscious mind to focus on those goals, dreams, and desires.
Even as you’re waking up, you can say, “I’m going to have the best day and everything I do today is for the highest good of all, including me, and I’m getting closer to my goals every day because I’m getting better and better and better.” That’s really believable, and it incorporates something that many people leave out: action.
You Have to Take Action
Helene Hadsell was so good at winning not because she focused on the prizes – that helped – but she actually filled out the entry blanks and sent them in! The hobby has changed dramatically since Helene was a ‘sweeper’. What I do now is go online, fill out the entry forms, and submit them. No matter what your goal is, you have to take action.
It’s like the old cartoon strip joke. Joe’s in church, and he’s praying, “Oh please, please let me win the lottery. I’m such a good servant Lord, I’m kind, and I help in the church,” and on and on it goes several frames, and he’s praying to God week after week to let him win the lottery. Finally, God says, “Joe! Meet me halfway. Buy a ticket!”
Joe wasn’t taking any action toward winning the lottery. You have to buy the ticket. You have to take some action. It’s like making a garden bed, doing all the work and prepping the soil, and then planting no seeds, and wondering why nothing is growing. You can’t do half the work. You have to do the whole job.
Say Them Out Loud!
So the first thing you’re going to do is say your affirmations out loud. Don’t just write them down in a journal. Don’t just write them out once on post-its and stick them in the bathroom so you see them every morning and look at them. Say them out loud! If you like to journal, speak as you’re journaling. If you’re in the bathroom reading your affirmations, if you have them there, or in the kitchen on the fridge, or wherever you put them, say them out loud.
Who Not to Tell
Helene included this turn of phrase in her book The Name It & Claim It Game for a good reason: “No braggin’ before baggin’!” If you’ve got some goals and desires, either don’t tell anyone or tell only a few people. Most people either don’t care that you have a problem, or they’re glad you have it. You don’t want to get what they call the evil eye. That’s why they sell those beautiful little charms in Greece, right? It wards off the evil eye.
You don’t want any negative energy coming towards you. You want your energy for that goal to go out, and all the pieces to come in as required.
Be Patient, Sometimes It Takes Time
Sometimes it’s the timing, or it’s not even meant for you. Helen Hadsell’s favorite expression was “There is no failure, only a delay in results.” If you set your mind on a goal, it will happen.
I’ve had some goals for my business that are only now coming to fruition; I started it in 2005. So it’s taken 20 years! I know people don’t like to hear that. “What do you mean? I want to manifest my thing tomorrow, and it took you 20 years to manifest?” Yeah, it did. I’ve got some videos on instant manifesting. Manifestations that took a couple of days, a couple of weeks, and some that took years.
Sometimes it’s timing. You are meant to have that, but it will take time.
It’s All a Game
Remember what Helen said. What’s the name of her book? The Name It and Claim It Game. Game! That is the keyword in that book title. This is a GAME.
If you come across challenges, you can just say, “Oh, this is part of the process. What do I have to learn from this to help me get to that goal?”
If we went to an Indiana Jones movie and he went into that cave and saw the Golden Idol, had that bag of sand in his hand, and just switched it perfectly, put it in his satchel, and walked out, that’s the end of the movie! That’s no fun. We want to see him running from the boulder, the snakes, and everything! But then, when we’re the ones running from the boulder, we don’t like it.
So if you come across challenges, just remember, this is part of the process.
Watch Your Words
One more thing, watch your words! I had a client who kept saying he was tired and overstretched, and kept saying, “I need a break, I need a break.” And then he broke his wrist and had to have surgery! I sent him a get-well card and said, “Don’t use those words anymore. Next time, say ‘I need to rest’ or ‘I need some time to rest.'” Words are powerful. The universe heard him and went, “Okay,” so he got both kinds, and on top of that, it hurt!
Your Action Steps
So let’s review:
- Abracadabra – you create what you speak, so notice your words.
- Watch your negative self-talk – be kind to yourself.
- Read your manifestation books out loud (maybe not on the bus – do that at home!)
- Say your affirmations out loud because eventually they’ll become second nature
- Have no doubt – I have no doubt that you will be successful. You’re just going to have a bit of a roller coaster ride, like the rest of us do in life.
- Think of it as a game – you don’t have to like every part of the game, you just have to accept it.
Remember, we’re here to play!
Please leave a comment on what you manifested by speaking your creations out loud.
