On The Wings of a Dove

Helene Hadsell passed away on October 30th, 2010. (I used her legal name in the image above.) She wrote this on June 2nd, 2007.

HELENE’S EPITAPH

My epitaph was I Did It My Way—after this worn-out body ceases to exist—that is, until I had an epiphany in a dream and saw a white dove. At that moment, I heard the words to the song—On The Wings of a Snow White Dove….

I chalked it up as interesting, that is, until the next morning when I was sitting on the front porch drinking my first cup of coffee. Watching the birds, squirrels, and rabbits hustling and bustling about, I looked up and saw two doves gracefully hovering around the elm tree. The words and pictures of my dream set me in motion.

I went to Home Depot and purchased a board next to Hobby Lobby to buy Italic letters. I got the idea that this would be my perfect epitaph.

I completed the printing that evening. Now, I needed doves. I drew a picture, and Chris, who has a jigsaw, cut them out for me. Now, I envisioned a tree. The perfect place—the corrugated side of a building beside my carport served the purpose.  So now you see it, my epitaph.

From this day forward, every time you see a dove in flight, I have his permission to send you my love on his wings.

NOTE: I didn’t know to look for the picture on my last two visits to Helene’s. I found it on my most recent visit, but the carport is now used for storage, and it’s not very visible.
