The Law of Attraction & Toxic Positivity

When all of Helene Hadsell’s books were finally made available on Audible, I decided to do something I had not done in years. I sent out a press release.

I shared it on all my Words For Winning and Contest Queen social media channels as I was excited to share the news I was fulfilling Helene’s dream of having audiobooks. It began with her famous quote:

“There is never any failure. Only a delay in results.”

On my Contest Queen YouTube post sharing the news, one follower got very upset, feeling that the quote was dangerous and outdated. Their post was long, filled with frustration and anger at how they had horrific experiences in life. No matter how hard they tried to manifest, it was their fault that it didn’t and ended with, “The quote initiates self-blame and gaslighting. Honestly, it feels MORE harmful than good.”

I knew I had to respond because the poster was correct. Many of the Law of Attraction teachers promote toxic positivity. ‘Send out love and Light. Vibe high, and all will be well.’ Life doesn’t work that way, and neither does the Law of Attraction.

My Reply

I am sorry to hear you have had such a challenging journey. We all have our tough roads. Helene nearly died a few times. Had multiple surgeries. Two of her three children passed before her. To name a few. I, too, nearly died. Been bankrupt. Divorced. Etc. So yes, at times, both Helene and I have given up. It’s not what the quote means.

The quote means that if there is something destined for you, there is no failure. Helene never saw her books in the formats and forms she desired. I am fulfilling that goal for her as part of my destiny. Therefore, this goal surpassed her lifetime. There is no failure.

Yes, shame plays a huge part in religious indoctrination. It’s what Helene had to reprogram herself from by reading metaphysical, spiritual, and inspirational books such as The Power of Positive Thinking. I did it by reading Codependent No More by Melody Beattie. (We were/are both avid readers, so these are just two of 100s of books that changed our lives and assisted in our soul’s journey/growth.)

You are correct in stating toxic positivity promoted by many metaphysical teachers is dangerous. I do my best to teach people that life has ups and downs and that sometimes the path to the goal you want is filled with grief, sorrow, loss, etc. For example, I wanted an interdependent relationship. Guess what? I couldn’t have that in my codependent marriage. So it had to go. A decade later, after putting that goal on my vision board and after a lot of internal shadow work, I met my current love. Again, there is no failure. I had to go through all those challenges to become the person who had that type of relationship. Same with any goal. Who is the person that has X, Y or Z? I highly recommend you read Transforming Fate into Destiny by Robert Ohotto. It’s one of the three books that changed the course of my life. (The other two were The Name It & Claim It Game by Helene Hadsell, obviously, and The Silva Method by Jose Silva.)

Also, a quick quote on social media is designed to get you to read the larger story. Her books are 100s of pages. So are mine. You can’t impart a lifetime of knowledge in one line. However, it can open the door to a larger conversation. Please ask yourself this. “Why did that quote trigger me to write such a lengthy response to an announcement that Helene Hadsell’s books were now available on Audible?”

I will conclude with this quote by Ram Dass. “We’re all just walking each other home.”

Manifesting Through Challenges

Life isn’t all sunshine and roses. Helene even taught that. She framed every problem as a lesson and learning opportunity as we are here in Earth School. Every good teacher worth their salt teaches the same. If you are clear on your desire, believe it will manifest (without holding on to how), and then be open to receiving, you can have the life you desire.

Neville Goddard taught that we need to cross the ‘bridge of incidents’ on our manifestation journey. Which means there is a gap between where you are now and where you want to go. The bridge of incidents is the series of events that fill that gap and lead you to your desired outcome. Nowhere does it say it will be easy, or that you won’t have to do some self-reflection, growth, or shadow work.

Plus, you can be pissy and still manifest. I had to pull out my proverbial sword to defend Helene’s legacy and my work when someone hijacked the SPEC Method and wrote nine AI books, one translation, and an audiobook. I focused on the end result of Helene’s legacy and teachings being preserved. It took three sets of lawyers and a detective, but four months later, I had them all unpublished/removed, along with stronger protections for Helene’s publications.

You are a human with an entire range of emotions that you are designed to experience. The key to manifesting is to keep your eye on the prize, focus on the end result, and take inspired action through those emotions. (Remember, Jose Silva taught that you create/dream in Alpha, and you take inspired action in Beta.) You will reach your goal. Depending on the goal, it could manifest instantly, in a decade, or anytime in between. Additionally, it may not initially appear as you envisioned, but it will manifest.
